Enschede, October 19th 2011. Indonesian Student Association in Enschede (PPIE) proudly presented annual cultural event called “Indonesian Evening 2011: Exploring Eastern Indonesia” in October 20th, 2011 at Bastille, University of Twente, 6 – 9 PM.
This year PPIE takes “Exploring Eastern Indonesia” as the theme of the Indonesian Evening. Cultural diversity from the eastern part of Indonesia-Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua- is explored. Tifa–traditional musical instrument from Maluku and Papua- is employed as the music background of a dance called Tifa Dance. Historical folklore from Bugis people -one of the ethnic groups in Sulawesi- is performed through the poetry “Nonton La Galigo”. Enggo Lari, Mari Kemari, and Angin Mamiri are going to be sung by PPI Musical Club. Many more attractive cultures are performed.
Besides, there is food bazaar. Various kind traditional foods from Eastern Indonesia are sold for only 1, 3, or 5 Euro. Two of the main dishes are tinutuan and coto Makassar. Tinutuan -a porridge made from rice, corn, green vegetables, chili, and smoked fish is traditional food of Minahasans -an ethnic group from Sulawesi. Coto Makasar is a soup from Makassar, Sulawesi made from beef or chicken. A lot of traditional snacks are also available. This is a great time to taste the Eastern Indonesia.
From this event, PPIE try to introduce the cultural diversity from Eastern Indonesia. This is represented through the art performances and food bazaar. Audiences were invited to play traditional dances and sing together.
