Saxion Universities of Applied Sciences

The Dutch people also calls Saxion Hogeschool as HBO Saxion. Hoger Beroepsonderwijs (HBO) means Higher Education for Professionals (and now is called “University of Applied Sciences”). Its curriculum has a purpose that students can apply their skills in the professional world after they graduate. This education level is equivalent to the University, but there is some difference between the theory and practice during the study. In the university, the proportion 80% theory and 20% practice, but in HBO, it 60% is for practice study.

There are 4 general programmes that are offered by the Saxion University of Applied Sciences; (1) Preparatory programmes (A very intensive English course to upgrade your English language skills to the level required for four-year Bachelor programmes, Final Year Bachelor courses and Master programmes), (2) Bachelor programmes (some are full-4-year and others are only the final year programmes), (3) Master programmes, and (4) Short courses (After successful completion of the course you will be awarded a certificate. Most of our short courses consist of a very intensive programme up to three months).

Overall, the all programmes at Saxion are given in Dutch, but they have, for sure, some courses in English for international students, such as Electrical Engineering, Art and Technology (formerly known as Graphic Design), International Business and Management Systems (IBMS), and some Master courses.

Saxion Universities is located in Enschede, Deventer, and Apeldoorn.
