Indonesian Food Festival (IFF) presented by Indonesian Student Association in Enschede (PPIE) on 7th of June successfully gathered many international and Dutch students and even some employees. There were more than 200 people and only about 30 people are Indonesian, which most of them are the boards of this event. Not only students in Enschede, there were also some students from Germany. In addition, Student Union, ESN, CSV Alpha, and all delegation of TIMUN also joined this event.

A day before the event, about 160 tickets had already been reserved. We provided 45 tickets on the spot and these all were sold out within 45 minutes. That was really great. Some visitors were disappointed since they could not get the tickets. No tickets, no food. We are sorry that; we could not afford all of the participants because of the limited tickets. In this event, there were six food stands which contain of more than six foods, which are;   


Soto Medan

(Medan Style Chicken Soup)

 

Soto Medan is other variant of Soto. Soto is a common dish to be found in various regional variations of Indonesian cuisine. It is a traditional soup mainly composed of broth, meat and vegetables. Soto Medan comes from Medan, a capital city of North Sumatra. The taste is similar with Soto ayam (Chicken soup), but it has sweet flavour because it has coconut milk inside.

Gado-gado

(Indonesian Salad)

 

 

Gado-gado is a very popular salad in Indonesia and has many regional variations. It is made from green beans, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and bean sprouts garnished with sliced boiled eggs and drizzled with a luscious peanut sauce. Gado-gado is such a hearty and filling salad that it can easily be eaten as a complete meal.

Klepon

(Sweet coconut rice ball)

Klepon are Indonesian style rice balls, stuffed with palm sugar. Not only is it very delicious alongside your cup of tea or as a nice dessert after your lush rice table, but it also looks pretty good.

Tempe Mendoan

(Mendoan Beancake)

 

Tempe Mendoan is a kind of tempeh cooking that is made from thin tempeh, fried with flour so as to taste deliciously piquant. Traditionally in the Banyumas territory, tempe mendoan was made from thin, wide tempeh, one or two sheets cooked at a time. However, tempe mendoan also could be made from normal tempeh that was sliced very thin but wide.

Agar-agar santan

(Jelly with coconut)

Agar-Agar is a vegetarian gel, in contrast to gelatin that is extracted from animal offal. Nowadays it is widely used in Asia. It is not a traditional food, but it is quite modern food. In Indonesia, we cook agar-agar with coconut milk and p alm sugar. It ma kes  the taste more unique and is different from the other countries.

  

Amparan Tatak

Amparan tatak is a kind of sweet cake which is made from white rice fluor and a slice of banana inside. This food comes from Kalimantan. Nowadays, it can be found in the others area in Indonesia with some modification.

Lumpia

 (Indonesian Spring rolls)

Lumpia, one of the most famous Asian desserts. Even out Asia this is very best known and favorite of the most people. In West Europe especially in Netherlands, people are crazy about this dessert. There is a lot of variation that you can make. You can use chicken or shrimp or even without meat. But one thing for sure is that in this snack is bamboo shoot always present. Bamboo Shoots are the key of all kind Indonesian lumpia.

Es Pallu Butung

Es Pallu Butung is very popular dessert from Makassar (also known as Ujung Pandang), South Sulawesi. It is also known as Es Nasu Butung. Literally translated, es means ice, pallu or nasu means cooked, butung means banana. Pallu, nasu and butung are words from a Makassar dialect.

Es buah tropis

(Sweet Fruity Ice)

Es buah tropis is a kind of dessert which is absolutely suitable to be enjoyed in summer. It is made from mixed tropical fruits (melon, mango, papaya, pineapple, strawberry, etc.), lemon, sugar, and of course ice block. The taste is sweet and a bit acid.

The weather at that moment was really nice; we were lucky there was no rain. During the festival, we entertained all the participants by traditional and also modern songs. We closed this event at 9pm by Poco-poco dance, but there were only few people; many of them had already gone.
